Job Description

The Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is pleased to announce the recruitment for Director of the Division of Neuropathology, one of six Divisions in the UAB Department of Pathology. We are inviting applications from qualified candidates at the rank of Associate Professor/Full Professor for a full-time, tenure earning/tenured position through the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine. The candidate should have an M.D. (or M.D., Ph.D.), Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology, and be eligible for a license to practice medicine in Alabama. The successful candidate should have a national reputation in academic neuropathology and a track record of a competitive basic, translational, and/or clinically focused research program. Prior administrative experience will be favorably considered.

The Neuropathology Division includes several faculty members with a diverse skill set and operational expertise. The Director is responsible for oversight of clinical and research activities and is expected to develop a strategic plan for the growth of clinical service and enhancement of the research and scholarly activity in the division. The Director reports directly to the Chair of the Department. Divisional faculty are noted for multidisciplinary academic productivity, teaching excellence, and national leadership. The Division supervises approximately 800 surgical specimens and 200 autopsy brains per year and has an ACGME-accredited fellowship. Research in the Division is diverse but particularly strong in translational investigations and neuro-oncology. The new Division Director will have an opportunity to recruit additional faculty in support of growing research and clinical missions.

Required Qualifications
